Dear Parents/Carers,
This Thursday, Friday Mrs Jamieson is attending Catholic Leaders Days, she has asked me to pass on this important information around the ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone for car line.
The morning ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone along the large hedge is for your convenience and for your child’s safety. It is for quick entry and exit and minimises congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers.
The ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone operates under ‘No Parking’ traffic rules. It is also the designated pick up lane in the afternoons, therefore the ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone cannot be used for parking on school days.
For the Safety of Children and the smooth running in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone, drivers do not leave their vehicle. To assist with traffic flow in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ Zone, drivers are encouraged to remain in the car while the children get in and out. If a driver must get out, they should not move away from their car.
There will be signs out to remind drivers.
We hope this helps with making drop off in the mornings, a smooth running experience.
Camp Update
I have been keeping in touch with our campers who are doing well and having a great time. There are many contingencies in place for wet weather as Jindabyne is a sports camp set up for engaging and energetic activities. Yesterday the children were able to spend time outside enjoying archery and slider trikes which looked like a lot of fun! Our campers are due home by 3pm on Friday if there are any changes we will post information on sZapp, so everyone can be up to date.
Newsletter Update
Just to let you know, we are not able to send home a newsletter next week. We will send an email before Friday to all parents advising names of students for awards at Friday’s assembly.
Having Faith
A person once shared with me;
“Judy, worry is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere!”
I was a bit taken-aback but the more I thought about it, the more I realised what a great reminder it is. We can live in a world of worry without even realising. On Monday afternoon 3/4K shared a piece of scripture from Matthew’s Gospel, in which Jesus shares a similar message;
‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,’
Having faith means trusting that God is with us when things go well and when times are tough;
May God carry you gently this week,
Many blessings

RE Week 5 - Be still and know that I am God
This week our focus for Community Prayer was one of my favourite readings. In the busyness of our lives, it carries an important message for each of us.
Some lines that stand out to me include;
"Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?"
Therefore, do not worry, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?” or “What will we wear?” … indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
"So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today".
Perhaps this Lent we could focus on growing our sense of busyness into a commitment to being present. An easy way to do this is to think about our response when someone asks how we are. Perhaps instead of answering “busy,” we answer “blessed”.

"Average libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities."
It has been wonderful to see so many family members using our Community Corner. Remember you are free to use it at any time of the day. Help yourself to tea or coffee and make use of the extensive parent library. Choose a book you like the look of and take it home to read. Talking with our children about books we enjoy is a great way to encourage reading.

Year 5/6 AFL Gala Day
On Tuesday the 3rd of March St Thomas competed in the 5/6 Gala day. Everyone tried their best and displayed great teamwork. The boys played a total of 5 games and finished overall second. This means they will move onto the next level later this year. The girls played a total of 4 games and were very competitive. It was the first time many of them had played. Congratulations to all students who participated on the day!
Harmony Day and Grandparents/Friends Day
Our sense of belonging is important to our identity, our well-being and our understanding of ourselves as global citizens. This Harmony Day we invite our grandparents/grandfriends to join us on Friday 20th March for a morning of prayer, celebration and connection as we continue to build a culture of belonging at St Thomas’. Please see attached note for further details.
Leading up to the day and on the day itself, we will be raising awareness and much needed funds for our partner school in Kenya Charcha Kiomanga Academy. Again, details are attached. The Global School Partners founder Jann Carroll will join us on the day to talk about the progress our partner school is making as a result of our connection with them and to collect our donations. Our connection with Charcha Kiomanga Academy helps us to understand that our sense of belonging extends beyond our family and school and into a global responsibility. This complements our commitment to the Common Good which is an important aspect of Catholic Social Teaching.
