Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been an exciting week for the students, particularly in Year 5, as the School Representative Council and House Captains for 2024 were elected.
I was so impressed with the speeches given by all the candidates. Their passion and will to be leaders next year meant that the voting was very close. Not every student who nominates themselves gets chosen, but even if they did put themselves forward and didn’t get elected, all our Year 6 students for 2024 will have a role as a leader in the school.
Congratulations to our Student Representative Council members (SRC) for 2024: Olivia Dunley, Matthew Rozario, Mikayla Giacomin, Mason Diamond, Lily Hart and Roddy Win.
Congratulations to the the House Captains for 2024:
Erindale: Alyssia Iglesias and Sofia Pearman
Riverview: Max O’Callaghan and Mila Sommariva
Lanyon: Marcus Nehme and Talia Ulakai
Cooleman: Nixon Dean and Georgia Penny
I look forward to working with these school leaders in 2024.
Classes for 2024
By next week, all staffing for 2024 should be sorted and I will be able to let you know the teachers for each class. Teachers have already spent a significant amount of time working out the class structures for next year, taking into consideration all aspects of what the students need and ensuring an even spread across the classes of gender, learning needs etc.
Carols Night
This annual event run by the School Community Council will be held this coming Thursday 6 December, from 6pm – 8pm. Please let us know how many sausage sandwiches you will need for your family members attending by clicking on the link below. The orders will close on Sunday night so we can place the order on Monday.
Shorts and skorts
We are introducing school skorts and school shorts with the school emblem printed on them. These are for the sports uniform. These can only be purchased at school and won’t be available until the 25 January. They are not compulsory as we will have a two year transition period of what is currently been worn. They will be a compulsory part of the school uniform from 2026.
School Shirts
Our blue school shirt is only available for purchase from the school and is not available in shops. They are for sale from the second hand clothing pool and the front office. They are $20 ($25 for long sleeved shirts).
Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT (CCSP) has published its latest newsletter
The Parent Talk newsletter provides parents and carers with information about developments in education, wellbeing, CCSP advocacy work and other relevant news and events. We request you share the newsletter link with families.
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend, especially if you are putting up your Christmas tree!
Yours in partnership,
RE Term 4 Week 8 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 4 – The Truth
Advent
This Sunday marks the beginning of the Advent season. The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means ‘coming.’ Over the next four weeks we will light the four candles of the advent wreath. The candles represent hope, love, joy and peace. Each week we reflect on these different elements in our life.
What will you do to prepare your hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas?
Vinnies Christmas Appeal
If you would like to donate further, there will be a collection point in the front office. You can donate gifts of a toy or activity for a child of any age. These gifts will be passed on to Vinnies to hand out where needed.
Our Mini Vinnies team has been working hard this year to make life easier for those in need. We thank these wonderful students for their efforts and example of helping others.
Global School Partner Calendars
There are 2024 calendars available to buy in the school foyer. The photos in the calendar are from Simon and Jan Carrol who run Global School Partners. There is a QR code you can scan to pay for the calendar and all funds will go to the St Thomas Academy, our new partner school.
