Dear Parents and Carers,
Here we are, already halfway through the term. The next five weeks are going to be busy and joyful all at the same time. There are various things happening each week, so make sure you keep up to date via the school calendar on the website and reminders in the newsletter.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parents and carers are invited to meet with your child’s/ children’s teacher in Week 8 (27, 28 and 29 November) for a parent/teacher conference to discuss student progress. Please note, Year 5/6 S interviews will be in Week 9 on the 5, 6 and 7 December. These meetings serve as a vital opportunity for you to engage with your child's teachers to discuss the learning experiences, and the progress achieved throughout this final semester. Your participation is key to continuing this collaborative partnership between home and school, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of your child's academic, social, and emotional journey.
These will be face to face meetings, however if you would like to have it remotely via teams, book a time via the online system and then email the teacher directly and they will set up a TEAMs invite. Reports will be sent home via Compass on the Friday 8 December (Week 9). Interviews will be scheduled for 15 mins slots with the length of the interview time being up to 13 mins. This gives teachers 2 mins in between to get ready for the following interviews. We have used a different booking system this year, through the Compass platform. Bookings will go live this Sunday night at 5:00pm. Please note, Year 5/6 S interviews will be in Week 9 on the 5, 6 and 7 December. See the attached PDF below for instructions guiding you through ‘how to book an interview’.
The biggest and best fete in Canberra!
Only one more sleep until the big event of our annual St Thomas the Apostle Fete! I’m really looking forward to this fun community event, as are all the children. We have had a terrific response from families to help out on Saturday, but there is still room for more. Click this link to sign up to help, even for just an hour. Don’t forget that every St Thomas the Apostle student will have their name in the draw for a big screen TV donated by CQ Electrics. To win, they must be present at the time of the draw.
The weather forecast is for a hot sunny day, so perfect for the fete. Hats and sunscreen are a must.
See you Saturday!
Yours in partnership,
RE Term 4 Week 5 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 4 – The Truth
Remembrance Day Liturgy
Today the Year 1 students beautifully lead us in a liturgy for Remembrance Day. The students were respectful and thoughtful with their readings and the example they set for others. It was wonderful to see the younger students lead us so well in prayer and reflection. Thank you for all the parents and family who attended today, it was so special to pray with you as a community.
Confirmation and retreat day
Next Friday 17 November, we will have two masses for the sacrament of Confirmation (5:15pm and 7pm). All families are welcome to attend either of these masses to support the 46 students preparing to receive the sacrament.
Next Tuesday we will have the Confirmation Retreat Day for all Year 5/6 students. They will attend school as normal, may wear free clothes and will have recess and pizza lunch provided. It will be a day of reflection, prayer and learning about the sacrament of Confirmation.
Please continue to keep these students and families in your prayers.
St Vincent de Paul Society
Thank you for all the donations coming through for Vinnies! The Kambah conference are very grateful for the consistent donations from our school. As we get closer to Christmas you may like to donate the following items to help fill Christmas Hampers and go to families in need; tinned fruits, coffee/tea, pasta, long-life milk, chocolates, lollies or Christmas Puddings.
Another idea for donations: If you are collecting ‘BBQ credits’ at Coles but are not interested in the items for yourself. You could still get the BBQ items and donate them to Vinnies. Cooking utensils and chopping boards will always be helpful! The link below shows you what can be collected with the BBQ credits if you are interested.

Swimming Lessons start next week
Swimming lessons run everyday for 2 weeks.
All participating children need to wear their swimmers to school under their usual school uniform in preparation for lessons.
Thongs or sandals can only be worn to and from the pool, please ensure that thongs or sandals are not worn to school.
All children need to bring a separate bag and have the following items clearly labelled with their name:
After their lesson at the pool, the children will wipe themselves down with their towel, put on their dry T-Shirt, wrap themselves in their towel and return to school on the bus. They will change into their school uniform back at school.
Children tend to be rather hungry after their swimming lessons, so you may like to pack some extra lunch for the two weeks.
SAVE THE DATE! Saturday 11 November 2023 10am-3pm
It is just one more sleep until the Fete!
Parking on Saturday
The school carpark is fielding the sideshow alley so there is no parking in the school grounds. The staff carpark in front of the school office is for disabled parking only. The area will be cordoned off. There will be no general parking at the school at all.
There is parking at the Kambah Ovals. These can be accessed from Boddington Cr, Chirnside Cct and O'Halloran Cct. You can then walk across the ovals to the fete.
Most importantly - Please do not park illegally on the footpaths. A few years back over 50 people were booked for parking illegally and we do not want our families to have to pay a fine after a day out at the school fete.
