Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back for Term 4. I was away on Long Service Leave for the last 3 weeks of Term 3. I had an incredible time travelling in Europe with my husband over that time. I feel privileged to be able to have had the experiences that I had and also to know that I had nothing to worry about in regard to school. I sincerely thank Susan Chant who was Acting Principal in my absence and Luke Mooney who was Acting Assistant Principal. They were supported by Geoff Ryan, REC and Tarthra Kennelly and Natasha Pank who shared the Acting Coordinator role.
Mission Day
Today we had a very successful ‘Socktober’ Mission Day run by the Year 5/6 students, their teachers and our Youth Minister Chiara. Thank you all for your kindness of contributions for this event. The money raised will go towards Catholic Mission and supporting the people in Timor-Leste. We are blessed to have such a generous caring community here at St Thomas the Apostle.
Referendum Sausage Sizzle and Coffee Cart
Tomorrow our school hall will be used for voting in the Referendum. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to work on our stall, particularly when we are so close to the fete and these volunteers will also be helping out then. If you are voting here tomorrow, don’t forget to come and buy a sausage and a coffee.
Registration Report
This week we received our report from the panel who carried out our our 5-year Registration Process. Attached is the report to the Community. I have kept my piece short this week so that you have the time to read the report. I encourage all parents to read it and perhaps gain some insights into some of the things happening here that you might not have been aware of. As the principal of this great school, I was very proud of what was presented in the report.
We have a busy and exciting term ahead and it will be Christmas time before we know it.
Yours in partnership,
RE Term 4 Week 1 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 4 – The Truth
This term our school focus is on the words “the life”. You can see in this newsletter alone that there is a lot of life in this wonderful community. As it gets busy, we like to plan ahead and think about the future. Take the time to be present and enjoy the little things each day that make our lives so enjoyable and interesting.
Confirmation information
This term, many Year 5/6 students will be participating in the sacrament of Confirmation. The information night is on Wednesday 18 October at 6pm in the Church. If you haven’t completed the ‘Home Night preference form’ please send it in this coming Monday.
Mission Day/Socktober
Today the students in Year 5/6 held a fundraising day for Catholic Mission’s Socktober. We raised $994 for Catholic Missions and QKR will remain open until Monday if you would like to donate. It was a very successful day where the 5/6 students taught the rest of the school about Social Justice in a joyful atmosphere. Each activity had a strong message behind it and the stalls were run sustainably with little to no waste leftover from the day. Ask your child what they learnt at Mission Day today!
All money raised will go towards Socktober as part of Mission Month. Catholic Mission supports vulnerable children facing malnutrition and food insecurity in Timor Leste. You can visit the following website to learn more about Socktober https://www.socktober.org.au/

Vinnies
A big thank you again to all the families who have donated items to St Vincent de Paul through our school.
This fortnight we are asking families to donate breakfast cereals and soups. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

What an exciting first week back to Term 4, welcoming our new street library to school! Each class got to go outside to see the street library and learnt all about how to use it. If you have any donations of books, puzzles or dvds that you would like to share with our community, please drop them in the street library.
We welcomed back author Amelia McInerney as well as Julie Long from the Children’s Book Council of Australia, ACT branch to help us open the street library. Both Year 1 classes got to enjoy this during their library lesson.
Please return all library books from the holidays as we still have lots of overdue books. Check your emails for any notices.
