Dear Parents and Carers,
School Musical
Well it’s finally here – the Year 5/6 Production “What’s the Crime Mr Wolf?”. It will be on here next Wednesday 26 October and Thursday 27 October. The show begins at 6:30pm with doors opening at 6:00 pm. There is no reserved seating. There will be an intermission with the canteen open for purchasing drinks (including beer, wine and cider for adults) and snacks. The students have been rehearsing for months and I can guarantee you a great family night of entertainment will be had for those who come along. Tickets are $10 each or $30 for a family of 4. A very special vote of thanks to Chris Tapp (dad of Noah) and Johnno Warren (dad of Alice, Penny and Chloe) for spending all of last Saturday here installing sound absorbing battens on the ceiling. After the hall refurbishment and with the curtains being removed, we found the hall to be very echoey. Chris and Johnno came and assessed the situation and suggested how to solve the problem, sourced the materials needed and then installed the battens. Their wives Mel and Monica (along with the children) also helped out with the task. Thank you one and all, your time and expertise is very much appreciated. We are so appreciative that this was all done in time for the musical production.
Our Annual Fete
At long last we are able to have our fete again! It’s been 3 years since this mammoth event has taken place and we are all so excited about it. The big day is Saturday 12 November with the fete starting at 10 am and running through until 3pm. There has been an incredible team of parents working behind the scenes organising stalls, sponsors, rides, prizes and contributions. Now it’s time for the next phase and that is to organise helpers on the day. If you can sign up to work on one of the stalls for an hour or two, your support will be greatly appreciated. Many hands make light work, and your hands are needed.

Class Placement for 2023
It is that time of the year once again when we begin to plan the classes for 2023.
When we do this, we aim to ensure there is a fair and just process in allocating students to classes for the following year.
With the teachers already having the children in their class for the past year, they are in the best position to decide a child’s placement because they know all the children and have a view of the ‘big picture’.
However, I invite parents and carers to inform me of anything that you feel needs to be considered, for your own child’s well-being or development. If you have concerns regarding the placement of your child/children in particular classes, please put those in in writing and address it to ursula.jamieson@cg.catholic.edu.au by Friday of Week 4 (Friday 4 November).
When forming the classes, the following factors are taken into consideration:
- gender,
- additional needs,
- work habits,
- cognitive ability,
- friendships,
- behaviour,
- health considerations,
- religion (to assist in achieving balance between classes, especially in Sacramental years).
Every care will be taken to ensure that each child is placed in the best class group to enhance learning and social development. Requests for students to be placed in a class with specified friends are not usually considered. Where appropriate, advice will be sought from the Learning Support Coordinator, School Counsellor, etc. Lists are given to me during the first week of December for approval and I have the final decision on the classes for 2023.
Children will be informed of their class and meet their teacher and classmates for 2023 on Thursday 15 December. They will all do an activity and have lunch together. New students starting next year (Years 1 – 6) are invited to come along for that session as well.
Interviews and Reports
Semester reports will be available through Compass in Week 10. Catholic Education schools are providing graded reports with no comments. Instead, parents and carers are invited to meet with their child’s teacher in Week 9 for a parent/teacher conference to discuss student progress, strengths and areas for development. These can be face to face or via MSTEAMs (that will be your choice as we know it can be helpful to some families to meet online). Opportunities to schedule an interview with your child’s teacher will be provided to you closer to the date.
Summer Uniform
We have now come to the end of our transition period from the winter uniform to the summer uniform and all students are expected to be wearing the summer uniform from Monday. We have plenty of good quality second hand uniforms available for $5 per piece. If you would like to purchase an item, please click the link below.

RE Week 2 - Our Common Home - Connecting with ourselves
This week students listened to the story of the cracked pot in community prayer. We recognise that each of us has amazing strengths and talents. We also acknowledge that we aren’t perfect and that there are areas we continue to develop. This story reminds us to look at the positives and accept all parts of ourselves, even the bits that aren’t perfect.
“A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and the other pot was perfect. While it always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years, this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master’s house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. ‘I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you.’
The bearer asked, ‘Why? What are you ashamed of?’
The pot replied, ‘For these past two years I am only able to deliver half of my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master’s house. Because of my flaws, you don’t get full value for your efforts.’
The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion, he said, ‘As we return to the master’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.’
As they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it somewhat. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, ‘Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you’ve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master’s table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.'”

REC
Thank you for all the wonderful donations for "Creation Day". We have a fully stocked set of garden equipment for the garden club and classes using the garden area. We have begun planting the many donated plants and will aim to get the remaining plants in garden beds next week.
And finally, thank you to all the families who helped at the working bee last weekend. It was a great community event and the school grounds and hall are looking fantastic as a result.
