Dear Parents and Carers,
Well here were are at the end of Term 3 already. It’s been a term with many events that have supported our students in their learning and have also helped to make our community stronger.
School Support Dog
Tommy our school cavoodle will be joining the Cameron family over the holidays and will be making an appearance in the first week of Term 4. He is still only a puppy so we will be taking things slowly with him. There will be a new section in the newsletter from next term, entitled “Tommy’s Tales”. There we will post photos and stories of our new staff member.
Gardens
On Friday of week 1 we will have our “Creation Day” with students invited to bring in some plants for our school gardens. This will be followed on Saturday 15 October with our Working Bee. We are hoping to make the working bee a great community event, something we have been missing over the past two years. Please consider coming along for an hour or two (or 4) to help make our beautiful school even more attractive.
Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Service
I was proud to have three of our SRC students represent St Thomas the Apostle School at this historical event that took place at Parliament House yesterday. Thank you, Lily Darcy, Caitlin Penny and Eloise Byfiled, for attending on our behalf and for the respect that you displayed throughout the day. Thank you also to Rick Connolly (Lilly’s dad) and Natalia Ciuffetelli for attending as well. It was a long day with the bus leaving at 8:30 am and returning at 1:30 pm but also a day I am sure they will never forget. A moment in history.
Floriade at School
I just had to share with you how stunning the tulips and other flowers that are blooming in our gardens. I hope you can drive by and see our garden bed up on the nature strip.
Holiday Intensive Course
In the second week of the holidays we will have 90 Catholic Educators here for three days doing an intensive course with Dr Lorraine Hammond and her team. The focus will be on High Impact Teaching Strategies and Explicit Direct Instruction. We will also have 59 students here for the three days with the teachers honing their skill in Literacy and Numeracy with these students. Thank you to those parents who have offered to have their children attend. It should be a vibrant three days of learning for all involved.
Parent Training
Following on from the Intensive Training, on Tuesday 11 October between 3:30 – 4:30pm, the first week of Term 4, Dr Lorraine Hammond will be running a Parent Course on supporting your child in the area of Reading. Please register using the link below to enrol in this course.
So that is it for Term 3. I hope you all get to enjoy some down time in the next two weeks and that the weather is warm and sunny so you can enjoy the great outdoors.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Week 10 - Our Common Home - Connecting with God
This term our focus has been connecting with God. We’ve discussed many ways to connect with God, however, we often go through life with blinkers on. We constantly think of the next thing we must do or get caught up in the business of everything. This isn’t to say that we don’t enjoy the good things around us, but we rarely slow down to appreciate God’s presence within each day. Look out for God moments throughout the school holidays. These are small interactions in the world around you that recognise God’s presence. It may be something beautiful in nature (especially during the season of spring) or a loving interaction between people. These God moments can spark a short prayer and connect us with God amongst the business of the day.
“True prayer is a way of life, not just for use in cases of emergency.”
Geoff Ryan

- kitchen equipment (NO electronics)
- bric a brac
- sports equipment
- other interesting items
We will be receiving donations at the school hall on the following days
Tuesday 11 October - from 3pm till 4pm and
Sunday 23 October - from 10am till 12pm
Please enter the hall and deliver in person, rather than outside for us to collect. We need to make sure these are treasure items not trash!

We welcome any children’s books and readers/novels.
Money Tree
Scratchies (can be sent to the Front Office in an envelope).
Chocolate Toss Stall

Plant & Garden Stall
Can you help with potted plants?
You can pot up any deciduous tree/shrub (e.g. Japanese Maples), any bulbs that have not yet sprouted or ones that have just started growing; parsley seedlings, lettuce varieties, most succulents. The more plants we have for sale, the better our stall will be. Succulent cuttings would be appreciated, they can be left at the school garden gate near the big hedge. All donated plants MUST be labelled. Donation of pots, plants and potting mix also welcome.
Colour Me Stall
Coloured hairspray, nail polish and temporary tattoos.
Handmade Stall
For all of those crafty families, we would love handmade items for this stall as well as jewellery (new or second hand).
How can you help?
Please like and share our Facebook page and click on at least interested for our event invitation as it gives the page more exposure. There is currently a competition running on the FB page to win an Inflatable World Pass.
Volunteers
In our next newsletter we will have a link for our volunteer sign up. We would really appreciate at least 1 hour of volunteering from each family. It can be from set up on Friday 11 November, before the fete, during the fete and after the fete for pack down. Without volunteers we can’t run our fete.
Kids bored in the holidays?
We would love the students to make a succulent creation! Think about using an old candle vase, tea/cup and saucer etc. plant now to donate to the plant stall.
Make a handmade product for our fete’s handmade stall. Google has heaps of ideas of projects to keep the kids occupied and they’ll raise money for the fete to by donating it to the stall.
Coming up in the next newsletter in Term 4
Order for ride passes, fete activity bags, Pick a Prize tickets, volunteer link and information about Tombola, free dress day.
