Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all the wonderful St Thomas community for the effort into our Mother’s Day breakfast this morning. Although it was an overcast morning (with a few spots of threatening rain), the smile and the buzz of conversations and laughter certainly brought sunshine for us all. Thank you to the awesome dads who came early to set up and prepare the breakfast. The bacon and egg sandwiches were delicious as were Victoria’s freshly baked cookies. We had over 370 people here this morning which shows what a great community we have. Our mums loved receiving their individual portraits that the children had so lovingly created.
SCC Open Meeting
This coming Monday evening from 6 – 7pm we are having our School Community Council meeting open meeting. For more information about this SCC meeting, watch a brief 1-minute video from our SCC chair, Daniel McInerney, explaining the purpose of the night. Care will be provided for school aged children. We will be in the library and they will be in the classroom break out area nearby. You can RSVP here to confirm your attendance. Refreshments will be provided for adults, and pizza will be served for the children while they are being cared for.
Enrolments
We are now into the second week of the enrolment period. We had a most successful Open Morning last weekend, with 18 families coming through the school. Thank you to the Year 5/6 students who gave up their Saturday morning to be tour guides for our prospective families. They did a brilliant job and the parents being shown around the school commented on the detail they went into about St Thomas the Apostle School. They were proud ambassadors for our exceptional school.
If you have a child starting Kindergarten next year, please make sure you have your enrolment lodged by Friday 24 May. It’s easy to overlook these matters when you already have a child enrolled at the school. If you know of any local families or friends who are considering St Thomas’, please let tell them about our next Open Day, on Wednesday 15 May from 9am until 5pm. If they can’t make that day, they are welcome to call Naomi in the front office and book a tour at a time that suits them.
Winter School Uniform
The transition period for summer to winter uniform finishes today. As of next week, all students are expected to be in the full winter uniform (see the website for details). Please note, that this means long pants and not shorts. The exception is on their sports days, when they are welcome to wear shorts under their track pants, in case they get hot during energetic sporting activities. I trust that we will have your support in ensuring that your children are adhering to our school uniform policy.
From everyone at St Thomas the Apostle school, we wish all our mothers, grandmothers, aunties and special woman in the lives of our students, a very happy Mother’s Day.
Yours in partnership,
RE Term 2 Week 2 - "Year of the Holy Spirit"
We continue to explore the theme of encounter. The beginning of term has been fast paced with students settling back into classroom routines and participating in many community events. There are many times in a school day where our community is invited to encounter Jesus. Sometimes it is clearly visible such as the Mini Vinnies team. 61 students have put their hand up to participate in 2024 and help others in numerous ways. Prayer liturgies and Christian meditation also offer time for students and families to reflect on our lives, Jesus’ teaching and be present to the Holy Spirit. Community events such as our Mother’s Day breakfast are also a chance to encounter Christ and experience the warmth of our welcoming community. We invite you to talk to your children about this and discuss opportunities to encounter Christ throughout each day.
Community Prayers
Community prayer will be held at 2:30pm in the St Thomas church on the following weeks this term.
- 1G – 31 May (Week 5)
- Year 2 – 7 June (Week 6)
- 1V – 14 June (Week 7)
- 5/6G - 28 June (Week 9)
Church Events
St Thomas the Apostle will be hosting many events over the term. Please keep a look out in the School Newsletter and Church Bulletin to see what is on.
