Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a great day here today, celebrating the feast of St Thomas the Apostle. This morning, we gathered together for Mass together in the church and it was so good to see many parents and parishioners attending as well. During the middle session of the day, the students rotated through different activities focused on the idea of “Jesus believers, givers and receivers”.
It was also our annual Vinnies Winter Woolies Appeal. The team from the big Vinnies group came in the afternoon and were presented with a mountain of warm clothes and blankets that will be distributed to the many homeless people in Canberra. There were over 80 bags packed into the Night Patrol Van, which amounted to over 800 items to support those in our society who are living rough. The SVDP crew were most appreciative of the generosity the families of St Thomas the Apostle have shown. Thank you to Jacinta Housler, our Acting REC, for planning such an inspiring day. I would also like to add here, that Jacinta will be returning to her full-time classroom teaching role next term. On behalf of the St Thomas the Apostle Community, I would sincerely like to thank Jacinta for her commitment and dedication to the role of REC over the past two terms. It is certainly a labour of love to be an REC, and Jacinta has been exceptional. I am sure you would agree with that.
Pupil Free Day first day of Term
A reminder to families that the first day of Term 3, Monday July 17 has been allocated by Catholic Education as a Pupil Free Day. We will spend the day looking at building our understanding in the curriculum areas of Maths, English, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). The front office will be open on the Monday and TEAMKIDS will be providing a holiday program for those requiring it.
Term 2 has been a productive and engaging term. I hope you all get to have great winter break and if you plan to travel, I pray that your journey is a safe one.
The St Thomas the Apostle School Community will be back at school on Tuesday 18 July.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal

I can’t believe it has been 6 months of fun, reading and creativity in the library this year! As we all look forward to the holidays, enjoy some photos from our sloth picnic this week. The children and I have spoken about having another soft toy picnic next term and we hope to hold that around or near Book Week. Stay tuned for more details.

If you are looking for things to do with the kids these holidays, there are some great free activities hosted by your local library. Follow the link below to browse:
Please see below for your borrowing days for Term 3.

I hope that you all get to enjoy some good stories or even try a new genre out in the holidays.

Southside Sue Geh Basketball Competition
Last Thursday Luke Mooney and I were lucky enough to see the 3/4 Girls compete in the Southside Sue Geh Basketball Competition.
The girls played 6 games over the day, won 5 of those games and lost one in a close nail-biter. They played with great sportsmanship and were wonderful representatives of the school.
They have progressed onto the finals against the winners of the Northside competition to be played later this year.
Watch this space for upcoming news on the 3/4 boys and the 5/6 girls competitions.
