Dear Parents and Carers,
Semester One reports
These will be available for you to access via Compass from 4pm this afternoon, Friday 23 June. I would like to acknowledge the work the teachers have put into the assessment and reporting process to ensure that they can give you, the parents and carers, an honest account of how your child/ren is/are progressing in their learning. If you are accessing this via your mobile phone, please open in "browser" to view the report. Reports are best viewed on a computer.
Tomorrow is our Winter Solstice Celebration
It is shaping up to be a spectacular afternoon with a strong response from people volunteering to help out and families letting us know that they are coming along for the occasion. I myself, am looking forward to having a freshly baked pretzel and a warm mulled wine. There will be a St Lucia parade and games for the children to play. Some of the trees in the playground will even be decorated with fairy lights. It is on from 2pm until 5pm. I hope you can come along to make it another enjoyable and successful community event.
CATALYST
From time to time I put comments in the newsletter about our approach to teaching and learning here at St Thomas’. It is evidenced based using the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading research. Catholic Education, Canberra Goulburn have recently commissioned the production of a series of Podcasts called Teacher Insights from Catalyst. It is hosted by our very own Luke Mooney. In his first episode, Luke speaks to the Director of Catholic Education, Ross Fox about Catalyst. He also speaks to Aimee Rastar (Barry) about the difference it has made to her teaching and the engagement and progress of the students in her class. It is on Apple iTunes and Spotify. I am sure you will find it both interesting and insightful. Please see the links below for the Podcast.
I hope you have restful and warm weekend.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Term 2 Week 9 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 2 - The Way
We have been completely overwhelmed by the donations for the Vinnies Winter appeal. I know the cost of living is tough for everyone at the moment, so thank you for being such an example of selflessness to your children. Please, see the below flyer for requested items from Vinnies.
St Vincent de Paul
This week we are asking families to donate nut-free spreads. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

Please mark in your diaries:
- 30June- St Thomas the Apostle Feast Day Celebrations.
- 30 June- Free clothes Winter Woolies
As you can see above and, in the calendar, next Friday we will be celebrating the feast of St Thomas the Apostle. Please see the flyer below for more information.
Stay warm and God bless,

Calendar
To view the Parent and Carers calendar please follow the link below to our school website. This calendar is very user friendly and clear to view on mobile phones.
All of Year 3-6 have all had a turn at the book tasting, where they sampled different genres such as mystery, fantasy/magic, informational texts, historical fiction, action/adventure and traditional tales/myths and legends. Many children now have some ideas of titles and different genres that they can borrow from next term.

Next Wednesday 28 June we will hold our sloth picnic in the library. Please see the invite below for more details. Looking forward to sharing our lunch with our sloth friends.
Children will need to return all their books including overdues to be able to borrow books over the holidays in Week 10.

Our St Thomas Apostle beanies are available for sale from the front office or the uniform shop (Friday mornings) for $10 each.
They are available in two colours, navy or royal blue. Students can wear either colour.
On Tuesday we sent two netball teams to the Southern Canberra Netball Gala Day. Despite a very chilly start, both teams had a wonderful day including 7 wins across 11 games. The students were able to hone their netball skills and all of them were fabulous representatives of our school. We would like to thank our parents and carers for making this day possible. Especially Vanessa, Mel, Tina, Marcella, Ashlee and Bella.
