Dear Parents and Carers,
On Wednesday night, 32 students made their First Reconciliation and received the Sacrament of Penance. It was truly a beautiful occasion and the air of excitement and joy that we witnessed as a faith filled community, affirms that we have children who understand the significance of being able to say ‘sorry’ and receiving ‘forgiveness’. Thank you to Jacinta Housler who organised the home groups for family preparation and the ceremony on Wednesday. Thank you also to the teachers who supported the students on their journey of learning about this very important Sacrament; Monique George, Georgia Croker, Amber Thompson, Lizzie Prater and Bianca Breen.
2024 Kindergarten enrolment still welcome
While the official enrolment period has ended, we still have some places available for Kindergarten enrolments for 2024 and late enrolments can still be accepted. Please keep promoting the school to prospective parents and their families. Enrolments in other year levels are also welcome and will be considered for 2024.
Enrolment interviews for families of students starting in 2024 have been taking place over the past 3 weeks. This is always an exciting time as we meet the young children coming to St Thomas to begin the journey of preparing for ‘big’ school!
Thank you for your support in promoting St Thomas the Apostle School and making new people and families very welcome to our community. I often see people asking about our school on various Facebook pages and am always humbled to see what our parents say about the care and education their children receive here. Our families and students are our best ambassadors.
For anyone requiring more details about enrolling at St Thomas the Apostle School, please go to the school website or contact the front office.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We are looking forward to meeting with families for the Parent Teacher Interviews next week. These meetings are an opportunity for you to discuss with the classroom teacher your child’s development so far this year. By meeting with your child’s teacher you are showing that you are a partner in their learning and interested in their life at school. Prepare for these interviews by thinking about areas of your child’s progress and development you would like to discuss. Your child’s classroom teacher will have information about how they are progressing in across the curriculum areas as well as socially, emotionally and spiritually. If you haven’t booked an interview time it’s not too late. Please see the Compass message that was sent out last Sunday evening on how to do this.
Tell Them From Me Surveys
The time to submit this survey has been extended by a week. If you haven’t had a chance to do it yet, I would encourage you to do so. The feedback we get and the information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Thomas the Apostle School
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the link that was provided via Compass.
I would like to wish you well for the long weekend coming up and hope you can spend some extra time with your friends and family.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson

Term 2 - The Way
Congratulations to the 32 children who made their First Reconciliation on Wednesday night. What a special evening for you all! May God’s love for you fill your hearts as you continue to grow each day on your faith journey. Thank you to Fr Praveen, Mrs Breen, Miss Croker, Miss George, Mrs Prater and Miss Thompson, Chiara Strmota and your families for preparing you for this special occasion in your life.
St Vincent de Paul
This week we are asking families to donate baked beans/ canned beans. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

It has become part of our St Thomas the Apostle Tradition to be involved the the Vinnie’s Winter Appeal. The Vinnie’s specialist homelessness teams have identified the following donation needs:
- Gloves
- Scarves
- Jumpers
- Warm Jackets
- Blankets
- Sleeping Bags
- Sleeping Mats
- Supermarket Vouchers
Over the next 3 weeks, please send in any of the above items, so we can help to make life a little easier for those sleeping rough in Canberra.
Please mark in your diaries:
- 11 June - Children's Liturgy during 10am Mass
- 23 June - 3/4C leading prayer in the church at 2:20pm
- 30 June - St Thomas the Apostle Feast Day Celebrations

Calendar
To view the Parent and Carers calendar please follow the link below to our school website. This calendar is very user friendly and clear to view on mobile phones.
This term during Media Arts, Year 3/4 have been working on creating a ‘selfie story’ to illustrate their day at school. They worked in groups to plan a story, find props and take photos of the parts of their day. Below are the wonderful creations they made in Pic collage on the iPads to make their photos into a story. Well done to all our budding photographers!

Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 have started on an author study of Julia Donaldson and are busy working on activities based on “The Room on the Broom”, “Charlie Cook’s favourite book” and “The Highway Rat”. Year 5/6 have just finished designing game characters and creating a story board to illustrate their game from beginning to end with pictures and descriptive words. It has been a busy term in the library and learning Media Arts.
Check out our awesome rainbow serpent made of individual big paddlepop sticks that we made for Reconciliation Week last week.

Enjoy a good book this long weekend,

Fete News - Saturday 11 November 2023
Information Session Monday 19 June 5-6pm
Our St Thomas the Apostle Fete is the major fundraiser for our school and parish. After a very successful fete in 2022, we are pleased to announce that planning has begun for 2023. This year the fete will be held on Saturday 11 November.
Thank you to all stallholders and volunteers from previous years, the time and energy you put into the fete is greatly appreciated. We can't stress enough how much we need and depend on the commitment and input of the whole school and parish community to run a successful fete. If you would like to know more about the fete and how you could be involved, please come along to an information session on Monday 19 June between 5-6:00pm. Our fete is a wonderful community event and a great way to meet new people.
