Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a such a positive start to the term. On the student front, it is wonderful to see them engage with each other in the playground each morning upon arrival. There are many games taking place (both loud and quiet) and the conversations taking place are priceless! On the teacher front, we are well and truly into our core business of teaching and learning. As a staff we are constantly looking for ways to improve our practice. On Wednesday we had a coaching session with Jordan O'Sullivan from Shaping Minds (who is based in Perth). Jordan worked with a number of our teachers throughout the day. They modelled a Maths lesson and Jordan provided feedback on lesson content and high impact teaching practices. Jordan also led a staff meeting for the teachers where we became immersed in the importance of why and how we differentiate when we are reviewing previous learnt content.
Next Friday 12 May, we would like to celebrate and give thanks for all the special women in our students lives. Breakfast will be available from 8-8:45am.
Open Days
Next week, our school will be open for our annual open days on Wednesday 10 May between 9-5pm and also Saturday 13 May between 9-11am. On this day, our doors are open for those community members who are interested in enrolling their children in our school. As you would agree, we have a supportive and caring community here at St Thomas the Apostle. The most effective of getting this word out is through you, our parents and carers, so start spreading the word!
Working Bee
Our biannual working bee has been re scheduled to next Friday 12 May straight after school. If you can spare a few minutes after school, it would be greatly appreciated.
Floriade Community 2023
This year we have joined the Floriade Community. We are going to receive a quantity of bulbs and annuals to plant and display from 16 September to 15 October. Please come and see me if you would like to be of assistance in planting with John Cousins, our groundsman, this term.
Winter sport has begun so whether you are at netball, rugby, basketball, soccer, league, dancing or gymnastics, may you take care of yourselves and your precious children. Gotta love this time of year!
Yours in Christ,
Susan Chant

RE Term 2 Week 2 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 2 - The Way
In Term 2 we are focusing on the words, "the way". Learning from the Gospel of Matthew, we explore who Jesus is and how we can become more like the face of Jesus in our world today. Our reading during community prayer was:
Matthew 7:13-14
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
We know that there are many distractions in our daily lives. We are faced with many decisions each day. These decisions can affect ourselves directly, our families, our workplace and those around us. Sometimes we don’t know what the best decision is to make. What Matthew is teaching us in this week’s scripture is that there is only one path to follow, and that is the path that leads to God. This is not always the easiest or most popular path. Likewise, sometimes the best decisions are not always the easiest or most popular to make. If you find yourself struggling to find answers this week, ask yourself, “which path will bring me closer to God?”

Thank you to all the parents and carers for attending the Reconciliation information evening. Welcome back to another exciting term in the library!
In Week 5 we will celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime which is held with thousands of children all over Australia reading the book, “The Speedy Sloth” by Rebecca Young. In conjunction with this, we will hold a colouring in competition for all children to participate in. Colouring sheets were handed out this week during library lessons but spare sheets can be picked up from the library at any time. Please return your entries to the library before Wednesday 17 May.
We are looking forward to decorating our library with all the creativity and colour that the children have to offer!
Don’t forget you can return your books to the green trolley before school, in library lessons and anytime to the returns trolley in the library. If you miss your borrowing day, the library is open every Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes, so children are very welcome to borrow at this time.

Happy Reading!

"Dear Parents and Carers,
St Thomas the Apostle is doing a class competition to see who can bring in the most bread bags. The bread bags will be recycled for money for sport equipment. All you need to do is send your empty plastic bread bags to school with your kids. Then we will send them to be recycled.
Collections close 7 July. The class that brings in the most bread bags will win a prize!"
