Next week we start the liturgical season of Lent. This is a time of simplicity and reflection. We take stock of what we have in life and the way we live. We then make a move to grow closer to God and think about how we want to live our life, to focus on what is important.

There are a few ways you can engage with the Lenten season. On Tuesday we celebrate Shrove Tuesday (or pancake Tuesday). This is a time to celebrate, before the beginning of Lent. Pancakes are traditionally eaten as they use rich ingredients such as eggs and butter. These were often used up in households before the time of fasting, prayer and almsgiving.

On Wednesday we will celebrate Ash Wednesday with a mass in the Church at 9:30am. You are very welcome to join us.

Many people make a Lenten promise. This is a promise to take something out of your life (e.g. chocolate, gossip, etc) or add something (prayer, eating dinner together as a family) to draw closer to God and others.

During the Lenten season there will also be an opportunity to participate in almsgiving through Project Compassion. Keep an eye out for information about this in the coming weeks.
